Another day, another potential DC Comics TV project as Variety revealed today that HBO Max has ordered a pilot for Dead Boy Detectives from writer/EP Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant) and Executive Producers Jerremy Carver, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden of Doom Patrol fame. The pilot is expected to begin shooting in November.
The “Dead Boy Detectives” characters were created by Neil Gaiman. The characters, named “Charles Rowland” and “Edwin Paine,” decided to avoid the afterlife so they could stay on Earth and investigate supernatural crimes. The characters will be showing up in Doom Patrol Season 3, where they will be played by Sebastian Croft and Ty Tennant, but Variety notes that they might not be attached to the series pilot.
This is but one of several DC series projects in the works at HBO Max – Green Lantern is already greenlit (pun intended) and DMZ is coming from Ava DuVernay. This is in addition to shows already running, like Titans and Doom Patrol, as well as others including a potential Constantine series are coming this way. A Strange Adventures project was announced at the HBO Max launch but there has been no movement or information on it since then.
