Deadline is reporting that newcomer Vella Lovell and Pete Gardner (Eagleheart) have joined the cast of upcoming CW dramedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Lovell will be playing main character Rebecca’s underachiever neighbor Heather, while Gardner will portray Rebecca’s boss Darryl, a man who considers himself more cultured than he actually is. The latter replaces Michael McDonald (MADtv), who played the role in the original Showtime pilot.
From Aline Brosh McKenna (We Bought a Zoo) and Rachel Bloom (BoJack Horseman), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend follows Rebecca Bunch (Bloom), a single New York lawyer who has a chance encounter with her boyfriend from camp. Unsatisfied with the direction her life has went, Rebecca decides to move across the country to get the fresh start that she needs and see if the chemistry with her ex is as strong in 2015 as it was in 2005. But once Rebecca makes it to California, she’s in for a rude awakening in more ways than one.
In addition to his role on the Adult Swim comedy, Gardner has appeared on the likes of The Brink, Full Circle, and 1600 Penn, while Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will be Lovell’s first television credit. They join a cast that includes Donna Lynne Champlin (Younger) and Vincent Rodriguez III (The Onion News Network).
The series premiere of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is set to air Monday, October 19th at 8:00 on The CW. You can check out the official trailer for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend here.
