NBC has officially picked up 3/5 of its Chicago-verse, as Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med have all been renewed for next season. The news isn’t a surprise given how much scheduling space they take up, the relationship NBC has with Chicago architect Dick Wolf, or the solid performance of each show.
However, the bigger surprise is that Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Justice have yet to be renewed and weren’t packed with the other three shows. Both shows have been doing renewable numbers, with the former a syndication beast, and help provide the framework from within NBC operates. Each show not being renewed as of right now isn’t necessarily a sign that both are being cancelled, given the financial gymnastics that can go along with renewals, but it’s still not great that shows that are so important to NBC are taking a while to cross the finish line.
Chicagos Fire, Med, and PD join an NBC 2017-18 schedule that includes new comedy A.P. Bio, the third season of Blindspot, and new dramas Rise and For God and Country.
NBC is set to reveal its 2017-2018 schedule on Sunday, May 14th, with its upfront presentation the following day. You can check out what KSiteTV thought it could look like here.
