TBS has given a series order to Nasim Pedrad comedy Chad, it was announced today.
“Thom Hinkle and I pursued this show for three years and it was well worth the wait. Chad is creative, diverse and inclusive storytelling that epitomizes the TBS brand,” said Brett Weitz, general manager of TBS and TNT. “Nasim Pedrad is a comedic mastermind and profound storyteller.”
Created by Pedrad, who will be showrunning with Hayes Davenport (Vice Principals), Chad follows the title character (Pedrad), a 14-year-old Persian boy navigating his first year of high school, his mother’s dating life, and his cultural identity. Chad’s main goal, though, is to get an in with the cool crowd and he’s willing to do anything he can to make that happen.
The series was originally in development at FOX in 2016 before TBS resurrected the project earlier this year. It’s the second recent series featuring adult actors playing teenagers, with Hulu’s PEN15 featuring its two creators/stars playing middle school versions of themselves.
In addition to Pedrad, Chad stars Ella Mika (A Wedding for Christmas), Saba Homayoon (Mistresses), Paul Chahidi (The Death of Stalin), Jake Ryan (Eighth Grade), and Alexa Loo (Legends of Tomorrow).
