ABC has announced that Community alum Joel McHale is set to host its upcoming Card Sharks revival, which will premiere this summer.
“I’m very excited to be hosting Card Sharks,” said McHale. “Game winners can win tens of thousands of dollars and in an updated twist – losers will be fed to a pen of adult Tiger Sharks.”
In Card Sharks, two players face off in a head-to-head elimination game of high-low where the winning player claims a $10,000 cash prize and a chance to turn that amount into a life-changing payday. The winner of that round also goes on to the final round where they risk their prizes on predicting seven final cards.
Apart from his acting career, McHale has an extensive hosting history that includes The Soup, The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale, and various award shows. Additionally, he’s recently popped up on episodes of The Masked Singer and RuPaul’s Drag Race, respectively.
This is the latest classic game show to be revived for a modern audience. ABC has the lion’s share of them with Celebrity Family Feud, To Tell the Truth, Match Game, and The $100,000 Pyramid, as well as upcoming Press Your Luck, while The Joker’s Wild was revived on TBS (later TNT) and the likes of The Gong Show and Battle of the Network Stars have already been revived and subsequently cancelled.
