FOX has confirmed that animated comedies Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy have been renewed.
The news was just a formality, as both shows were already in production for their ninth and seventeenth seasons, respectively, due to animated shows needing longer production time before airing. Still solid performers in linear ratings, Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy remain especially strong in syndication, with the former prepping a movie for 2020 after winning two Outstanding Animated Program Emmys in recent years.
What will be most interesting is what shows FOX surrounds Bob’s and Family Guy with next season. After cleaning house by cancelling Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man on Earth, and The Mick, the network’s comedy orders went to three multi-cams, none of which seem that compatible with their Sunday brand. Therefore, we might be in for a lineup of Bob’s, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and a drama – possibly The Orville if it’s ready for the fall, since it’s another Seth MacFarlane production that would gel with its lead-in’s humor. Considering the pre-upfronts week that FOX has had, though, their schedule release next Monday will be filled with surprises pretty much regardless.
Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays at 7:30 on FOX, with Family Guy at 9:00.
