NBC got the pre-upfronts ball rolling on Monday with series orders for legal drama Bluff City Law and immigration comedy Sunnyside.
In addition to Smits and McGee, Bluff City Law stars Barry Sloane (Revenge) and Michael Luwoye (Hamilton).
Co-created by Kal Penn (House) and Matt Murray (Saturday Night Live), with Mike Schur (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) executive producing, Sunnyside follows former New York City Councilman Garrett Modi (Penn), who got busted for public intoxication and lost his political career as a result. Reeling, Garrett finds the direction he’s looking for when six recent immigrants hire him to help them become American citizens.
In addition to Penn, Sunnyside stars Diana Maria Riva (Telenovela), Joel Kim Booster (The Other Two), Kiran Deol (How to Get Away with Murder), Poppy Liu (Mercy Mistress), Moses Storm (Arrested Development), and Samba Schutte (The Tiger Hunter).
