The CW’s update of Beauty And The Beast, which is moving to Mondays this Fall, has become quite a social media fan favorite, with its rabid “Beasties” spreading the word of their favorite show. This passion has been noticed by the network, which renewed the series for a second season.
At this year’s Comic-Con, we spoke to Kristin Kreuk, the actress who brings the series’ main female character, Catherine Chandler, to life, and found out a little bit of what we have to look forward to in Season 2.
“There’s a little bit of turmoil,” she revealed. “This season has them tested rather intensely. Catherine has been kind of obsessed with him, and has sacrificed a lot in her life… I can’t give a ton away, but they’re going to be falling in love and also pulled apart by so many forces this year, including Catherine’s real father.” Cat’s father is played by Ted Whittall, who appeared alongside Kreuk in the Smallville Season 8 episode “that everybody loved,” “Power.”
Kreuk agreed that the fan passion for Beauty And The Beast was a big part of getting the series renewed. “I think they’re a big part of why we have a second season,” she said graciously. “They’ve been so passionate from the beginning. They put in so much time and effort and energy for this show. It just blows my mind. I don’t think we would be here without them, honestly, without their drive.”
Those fans will be rewarded with a new year that is already planned out from start to finish. “Our show is going to be very different this year. We have a new show runner on board [Brad Kern] who is amazing. Just an amazing man. I’ve talked to them, and the really cool thing is, this year has a full arc. Beginning, middle, and full season character arcs already mapped, which is so wonderful to me. I’m so excited about it, and I love where it’s going, because it’s really about self-definition, and who am I apart from a man,’and who am I when my family is not the family that I thought I had? I love that for her, so much,” Kristin said.
