Ruby Rose is taking on the iconic role of the DC Comics character Batwoman for the upcoming DC TV crossover for this year, and the actress has expressed her excitement on late night TV… but one thing that is clearly not working for her is social media, where trolls seem to be okay with directly attacking talent.
Less than a week after taking the role, following some extremely negative comments from some fans on social media, Rose has deleted her Twitter account, and comments on Instagram have been disabled.
“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from – has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change,” the actress posted in one of her final Tweets.
Rose’s casting has inspired mixed responses, with the aforementioned trolling as well as genuine concern among some supplanted by those who are extremely excited and think that she will be perfect for the role of Kate Kane. If the crossover goes well, Rose will star as Kate in an ongoing Batwoman series being developed by writer Caroline Dries (Smallville, The Vampire Diaries).
