ABC has renewed solidly-rated new comedy American Housewife for a second season. The renewal was never in doubt given the show’s raw ratings and retention from The Middle, not to mention the fact that it got an extra episode this past December, but the network waited to make things official rather than give the show an early pass to next season.
From Sarah Dunn (Spin City), American Housewife tells the story of Katie Otto (Katy Mixon), a Connecticut wife and mother who sticks out among the moms in her high society neighborhood. Though Katie gets self-conscious about how her appearance, the behavior of her children, or the state of her relationship differ from what she’s seeing reflected back from her peers, ultimately she realizes that it’s okay to live life on your own terms and that sometimes there’s fulfillment in embracing what makes you different.
In addition to Mixon, American Housewife stars Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show), Meg Donnelly (Team Toon), Daniel DiMaggio (A Tiger’s Tail), Julia Butters (13 Hours), Ali Wong (Savages), and Broadway veteran Carly Hughes.
Successfully helping ABC expand its comedy reach on Tuesdays, American Housewife joins an ABC comedy slate that includes The Middle, Modern Family, and The Goldbergs, among others.
American Housewife airs Tuesdays at 8:30 on ABC. The network will reveal where it and every other fall show will be scheduled Tuesday, May 16th.
