ABC has announced that sophomore medical drama The Good Doctor and recently relocated A Million Little Things have been renewed for the 2019-20 season.
Averaging over 11 million viewers and a 2.1 in the demo in L+3 ratings, The Good Doctor has taken a major hit in Live + Same Day ratings due to how difficult the 10:00 slot has become for broadcast and the surprise success of NBC’s Manifest. But the series, which stars Freddie Highmore as an autistic doctor in San Jose, has slowly been reeling in the sci-fi drama while staying robust in non-linear viewing.
Non-linear viewing also gave A Million Little Things a leg up, as its modest results Wednesdays at 10:00 were outweighed by strong DVR viewing and social media buzz. That potential, along with the show being owned by ABC, helped the show receive a timeslot upgrade to Thursdays at 9:00 following Grey’s Anatomy. Once there, A Million Little Things has flourished, hitting series highs in Live + 7.
From DJ Nash (Growing Up Fisher),
A Million Little Things and The Good Doctor are the third and fourth scripted series to be renewed by ABC for 2019-20. They join the final season of Modern Family and a summer run for Agents of SHIELD on the schedule.
