FOX has announced that it’s given a series order to a six-episode Beverly Hills, 90210 revival set for summer.
“Beverly Hills, 90210 left an indelible impact on pop culture and an entire generation,” FOX Entertainment president Michael Thorn said. “Its powerful legacy is an important part of our network’s DNA — bold stories not told anywhere else and bigger-than-life-characters — and we’re honored to bring back the beloved original cast members for 90210.”
From Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler (Daytime Divas), this incarnation of Beverly Hills, 90210 is a meta twist on the original and finds original series stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling reuniting when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. The series follows the cast, playing heightened versions of themselves, as they scramble to put together a new version of the show that was so important to their lives.
The involvement of fellow originals Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry is yet to be determined. The latter is currently a series regular on The CW’s Riverdale, which should limit his involvement.
This will be the second new take on 90210 following The CW’s reboot that aired from 2008 – 2013. Alberghini and Chessler were responsible for Spelling’s well-received 2006 VH1 scripted series So Notorious, which had a similarly meta bent.
